In term 1, I learned about elements and their properties. I learned that every element has at least a proton and a neutron. Most of the elements also have electrons. There is also the periodic table to classify them into groups and periods. The way elements are classified into groups is by its valence electrons. The number of valence electron an element has, is equal to the number of its group. Elements in the same group have similar chemical properties. The elements are also organized by their number of protons. The element with the least number of proton is the first and the next smallest is the second and so and so forth, until the last element is in the periodic table. I also learned about the atomic number, which is the proton an element has, and about the nucleon number, which is the number of protons and neutrons added up together. I also learned about isotopes which is an atom of the same element with the same number of protons but different number of nuetrons.
I also learned about the ionic and covalent bonding. These bonding happen because the atom wants to become a noble gas, which is a gas that has its valence shell filled full with electrons. The ionic bonding happens between metal and non-metal while covalent bonding happens between non-metals only. The ionic bonding is the metal giving its electrons to the non-metal while the covalent bonding is the 2 non-metal sharing their electrons. This is what I had learned in term 1.
